"One word, outstanding! The staff from the front desk to room cleaners and everyone in between were so friendly and helpful. Your day starts with an exceptional breakfast spread - I have yet to see a better one in Europe. The hotel is situated on the marine close by he old town, with plenty of dining options near by. Ending your day either at rooftop pool or spa - complete with steam and sauna facilities relaxes those muscles after your day exploring the island. "We had a lovely stay at Caloura Hotel Resort. The location is quiet, remote, and beautiful—perched on the cliffs with peaceful sea views and lush gardens. It was especially nice to be able to walk down to the ocean through the grounds. The hotel feels very calm and relaxing, but you definitely need a car to get around. We had a ground-floor room overlooking the pool. The room itself was fairly basic but comfortable, and it was great to have a little balcony. The corridor outside had a strange smell when we first arrived, but the staff quickly resolved it after we mentioned it at reception. I wish I could remember the receptionist’s name (possibly Alfonso?)—he was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. We ate at the hotel restaurant a few times. The food was a bit hit-and-miss, but the staff were always apologetic and clearly doing their best. Overall, the friendliness and helpfulness of the team really made a difference and made up for anything the hotel might lack in luxury. Lots of free parking too. We’d happily stay again and would recommend it to others looking for a peaceful base on São Miguel."

"All staff was incredible and greeted me in Portuguese while other hotels greet you in English. I go for the culture not to feel like I never left my country, so keep it up folks. A shout out to Fabiana, Ruben #1 and Ruben #2, Andre, Paulo, Pedro and Alexander. Its the people that make us feel at home and this team made our stay incredible. Verde Mar is my #1 location moving forward and I have been to the island 14 times. Great location and walkable city. Restaurant offers amazing food and wine selection. Breakfast buffet is on point. Pool with food service is great as well. The fact one can walk down a path to a big beach is a bonus. Rooms are spacious and well stocked. I actually have no complaints and simply loved this spot. "

"We spent a fantastic week at Casa das Palmeiras — we loved the small inn feel — beautiful decor and thoughtful touches and warm welcomes — and the great central location. We could walk to any number of cafes, restaurants and shops yet our room was quiet and calm in the evenings for a great night's sleep. Everyone we interacted with was so kind and helpful. Our very early flight meant we missed the last day of exceptional breakfasts — but there was a to-go package waiting for us with treats and juice boxes. Great amenities — extra towels for showers after visiting the iron-rich geothermal pools, that incredible breakfast!, and always available cofffee — were much appreciated. This was a perfect place to launch into adventures around São Miguel and return to comfort each night. "
