We have been traveling for more than a month, in many fantastic cities in Spain, France, and Italy. Typically at 4 and 5 star hotels. This was a gem, and the value was outstanding. The property-the building, the rooms, the gardens, the views-is spectacular. The restaurant was amazing. Chef Marco was a one man show, and his braciole was unique and innovative while still reminding me of my Sicilian-American family recipe. He also made the delicious Tiramisu at our table, with flair and charm. Having eaten at several “starred” restaurants on this trip, with much bigger staffs, my wife and I both could see Marco with a star of his own someday. In general, the staff were charming and very helpful. If this was in a town that was more touristy than Messina, it would be three times the price!
The only challenge is the location. It worked great for us because we were looking for a relaxing stop before heading to Taormina. But it is a bit far from the rest of Messina. Fortunately, you really never have to leave.
