We recently stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo and had an overall excellent experience. The hotel itself is beautiful, impeccably clean, and the service throughout was professional and warm. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the facilities throughout the hotel were of a very high standard.
The only reason I am not giving a full five-star rating is due to the breakfast experience on our first morning, which unfortunately did not meet the expectations one would have of a hotel of this calibre. We were seated in a far section not typically used for breakfast, which was quite far from the food stations and had no staff presence to assist us. The egg station was understaffed, with only one chef and limited service plates, and basic condiments like salt and pepper were missing from the tables. Additionally, only instant oats were available rather than cooked oats, and there was no hot milk jug provided—something we've found standard at other five-star hotels.
That said, we are pleased to note that these issues were addressed in the following days, and the breakfast experience significantly improved, reflecting the service standard we expected from Shangri-La.
Despite the rocky start to our mornings, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Thank you to the staff for making the rest of our visit so enjoyable.
