Already ready for my next stay here!

Rooms were clean and well-maintained. The hotel itself is charming and the staff was very kind. Take the tour if you can and learn more about Marta Beckett and the history of the hotel! The surrounding desert was nice to walk in as the sun rose. Some of the rooms were hand painted by Beckett and I got lucky enough to be in one!

It’s an amazing building and if you love history and old building you should stay. it’s also very old and sparse with few amenities and fragile plumbing and bad WiFi. The price is reasonable all things considered and regardless you should do the tour.

A very nice, interesting place, the Opera House was quite welcoming and offered a unique, tranquil experience. I plan on returning the next time I visit the area.

More neglect than charm

Stayed over after ending our day in Death Valley NP. The staff seem to do the best they possibly can with this aging property. The check in was friendly. The room was as clean as it could be. The place likely had a charming rundown vibe going for it in 1966, but it has reached a further state of decline that replaces the charm with something closer to neglect. The property has a little museum display across the street for something that happened in 2018 for a dancer. There are other plaques from 1988 marking the history. So it clearly was a pet project for some boomer(s). They either need to seriously invest in upgrading some part of the property so that the stucco walls don't cave and the tile in the bathrooms isn't coming up; or they need to say farewell and end it all.

Step into the charm of a 100-year-old vintage hotel, renowned for its rich history and timeless allure. This iconic establishment is a must-visit for any traveler seeking to experience a piece of living history. While the rooms maintain their classic, aged aesthetic, they are meticulously kept, ensuring a clean and authentic stay.

8/10 Very good

Overall good

We booked with Amargosa because of its interesting history and proximity to DVNP. The receptionist was very helpful and kind. Our room was clean and comfortable as well. The plumbing at Amargosa is as old as the building however. So that’s about 100 years. We noticed a pretty strong sewer smell in the hallway but not in our room. Also if we had wanted to shower we’d have had to keep the water running for 15 minutes before it got hot- and especially in the desert that just didn’t feel right. Overall it was a good experience though.

For a quick night to stay as a spot to kick off your trip into Death Valley, good value for money.

This is a truly unique property that is a historical part of the region. The hotel is 100 years old and is very basic and simple, but it's a fun trip back in time with great staff and really cool architecture. It's a great experience. I later read that I stayed in one of the most haunted rooms but I slept like a baby both nights. Also, great place to explore death valley from

Beautiful 100 year old building with a lot of charme and details. The plumbing is old too, so you have to wait some minutes, till you get hot water. The staff is great and you can book tour through the Amargosa opera house (9am and 6pm).

Wanting to see stars? This is the place you want to be. Eating is 7 miles up the road. Great tea and coffee ready 7 a.m. It's an old motel with lots of character.

2/10 Poor

Just don’t

The location itself is very old. It’s over 100 years old. Normally this is my kind of thing. I don’t mind peeling paint. I don’t mind it being rough around the edges. I love the solution. I love the idea of this place. Unfortunately, it was subpar on almost all levels. And that saying a lot, I love an historical stay, which is why I chose this place to begin with. But the smell that permeated the whole place, the halls, the rooms, the linen, the pillows. The furniture was a brawl sewage. Do not stay here till corrections have been made. The only reason we stayed is it is in the middle of nowhere. We got there about 9 o’clock and there is a little around for options.

Ghostly Amaragos Opera House

Room itself is spartan and worn. King bed comfy. But, the whole opera house thing is very interesting. Charming murals and artifacts in common area. No sign out front so it looks closed. Must look for hotel entrance well back from the road. Nearest restaurant 7 miles north. Food okay there. There are claims that the hotel is haunted. Not our experience.

2/10 Poor

Literally the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Had I know I would have driven the 7 miles further to the LongStreet. Hallway smelled like sulfur (rotten eggs), sand and hair under the covers on the sheets, water smelled sour. Almost slept in my car.
SEAN, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

While the building has seen better days and the accommodations are minimal, this place is the most unique stay I've ever had and is bursting with exciting history, which the helpful staff will share on and off the tour. I'd highly recommend staying here to help keep this place alive, but just be prepared for things to be a little rough around the edges.

Wonderful Night Manager, but Very Poor Hotel

First I want to say that the wonderful young woman who checked me in was stellar. She was so nice, friendly, and welcoming. I hate giving bad reviews, however, the condition of the hotel is very poor, the water coming from the shower head was barely a trickle, there was a smell of raw sewage in the hallway and in our bathroom that literally made me a bit sick to my stomach, and the condition of walls esp around the base were quite deteriorated as if it had been damaged by flooding. Given the condition of the rooms, poor shower, strong smell of raw sewage I am surprised it passes California State inspections. There was supposed to be coffee but was none. There was no fridge, microwave, cups for water in the rooms as well. The heater/AC unit was in good condition and was fairly quiet. Bed was good and the sheets were clean with good pillows. The good about the hotel is that it is fairly near an interesting Death Valley National Park and is much less expensive than the accommodations in the park.
