We’re not picky and have travelled a lot, and while the hotel is cheap, the overall experience was disappointing. We were met by a rude female receptionist, and service was poor unless you were buying something at the bar. When asking for help (e.g. transport), we were told “Ask tomorrow.” The attitude felt like: “Help yourself – I don’t care.”
The only bright spot was the elderly man on night duty – kind, calm, empathetic and truly service-minded.
The room was small and poorly maintained: furniture was scratched, the bed glued at the seams, and it smelled strongly – also in the hallway. It was dirty at check-in, so we cleaned ourselves. The sink was placed outside the bathroom, which felt unhygienic. Poor lighting and a broken hairdryer added to the discomfort.
Location-wise, there’s no public transport after 21:00, it takes an hour to reach the city centre (30 minutes highway by car), and the area is mostly industrial with planes flying directly overhead.
Positives: cheap bar and nice colours in the interior design. The hôtel building is very fine as well.
If you go there, you should think of it as a Motel - it is good to spend one night there if you’re traveling through Amsterdam, but not for many days, because of the location.
