The good: You get your own "room" to "sleep" in. They provided ear plugs. The location is right around the corner from the Grand Street station in Chinatown (B, D) train. The bus stop is literally in front of the entrance of the hotel that takes you uptown and onto 3rd Avenue. The bad: Everything Else. This place is not accessible, so plan on carrying your bag up many many stairs. Don't plan on trying to drop your bag in the morning, as there is no one there until 11am. Apparently, you also need to pay a bag storage fee, but I didn't because I was required to bring my bag to work. Check in at 3 was crazy busy with people, but efficient. This place should not be allowed to call itself a hotel. It is a hostel. You get your own room, but the ceilings are open for ventilation, so you hear everything! Snoring, farts, giggles, and alarms. Awful. There is one shared bathroom with a single shower on each floor. While the bathroom was pretty clean, the floor was often wet due to the proximity of the shower. I would never stay here again. This place is a hostel for college-age students.

This is a good place to stay and you don’t need amenities. The room is very small but it was clean and the bathroom was clean. It’s really quiet and if you don’t mind the stairs you’re good to go. I would come back. Good price and clean. That’s great in my book.

If you want accommodations that are extremely bare bone this is the place for you. No hot water, no hair dryer, no iron or ironing board, no remote for the TV, and no way to connect with the front desk staff… Lighting is fluorescent, walls are thin, and stairs to the floors are steep. But towels were nice and there are no bugs.

You know going in its not going to be 5 star, but no windows or controllable air in your room, and The ability to hear your neighbors whispered conversations and every conversation in the hallway makes you know a peaceful night sleep isnt going to happen. The climate control in the hallway is the absolute worst because it was beyond freezing in my room and you get a sheet and a thin blanket so I was forced to wear a jacket to bed. They really need to deal with this because you'll never find a temp the entire floor will be happy with.

This is a very run-down, hostel-like property charging NYC prices. My door had screw holes and cracks where the locks had apparently been moved after being broken, and the only security for one’s belongings when you leave is a basic non commercial doorknob lock. The overall feel was more like an old Bowery flop house, which is fitting for the location. I also waited almost 30 minutes for someone to show up at the front desk to check in. On the positive side, the AC worked, and the mattress had a sealed plastic cover with polyester sheets which at least provided some peace of mind about bedbugs. I’d strongly recommend looking beyond the photos on Hotels.com and checking other sources before booking so you have a realistic idea of what you’re getting into…and if go for it then be sure to BYO-TP.

Pros: Conveniently located close enough to the subway to grab the 6th Ave express uptown. Good AC. Very friendly, polite, and helpful staff. Pretty firm and comfortable bed. Cons: Stairs not level, floors not level, feels a little like walking uphill. Extraordinarily thin walls. Very low water pressure in shower. Linoleum floor in the bedroom unpleasant to walk on with bare feet. Sign has a different name on it: "New World Hotel," so I walked right passed it the first time. I expected the bare necessities for the cost, but I think this is still overpriced for the quality.

The property is still under construction. When approaching the property, there is no indication of the property name other than the building address. The property still has the prior business name on the facade. The rooms are tiny. The room I was in was the width of a queen size bed, which was the exact size of the bed. The length of the room was not much bigger than the length of the bed. There was approximately 3 feet from the foot of the bed to the door. To get in to the bed I had to climb from the foot of the bed to the head of the bed. The space was also very noisy, I could hear conversations from rooms away, I also heard someone having s*x during the night. The noise level was probably due to the fact the rooms had open grating in the ceilings, which was very disconcerting.

This is the kind of hotel a detective walks into in a 1970s crime drama. He slides a grainy photograph across the counter and asks, “You seen this guy?” Here, he’d have to come back in the morning: despite the advertised 24-hour front desk, nobody was there when I needed help overnight. The daytime clerk was pleasant. So was the cleaning staff. They aren’t the problem. The problem is whoever decided a building could be carved into rooms like morgue drawers and rented out for $276.60 during a peak season weeknight. Mine room, if you could call it that, was barely larger than the bed, which stopped the door from opening fully. No windows, no apparent ventilation, no climate control. Hot, stale air. Hallway light leaking through an opening in the drop ceiling. Five flights up with my luggage. It was a windowless, dank cell is a bad noir nightmare. Downstairs, people smoked cannabis in the lobby. Arguing became fighting; five NYPD officers eventually arrived. I lay awake in my little drawer, wondering how many basic features of a hotel room the owners could remove before somebody stopped calling it a hotel. The staff deserved a better place to work. I deserved a place to sleep. The owners got my money.
