Hotel seemed to run very efficiently, despite it being very busy. Lots of entertainment options on site. Top floor onsen in Sorakan is very nice and provides wonderful views of the city. Would recommend for a family trip, but probably not for a romantic trip.

I booked the room HOSHI KAN Deluxe with Tatami Area Ocean View 58sqm sleep 6 people through Expedia. Clearly stated “ Children can stay for free if using existing beds when occupying the parent or guardian's room” while booking. The hotel insists to charge extra $300 upon check in for my 5 and 8 yrs old (kids don’t need buffet, they only eat burgers and fries). Super dissatisfied with the inconsistent information.

When I opened the window curtain of the room, Beppu welcomed us. In the village, the hot spring steam rose white and I could see the green mountains and the blue sea in the distance. If you are traveling with children and elderly people, you may stay in the Sorakan overnight. There is an open-air hot spring on the 13th floor of the Sorakan, so children and elderly people can move by elevator without walking much from their room to the hot spring. The hot spring water is smooth and the view of Beppu Bay is excellent. The terrace and dining buffet food on the first floor is also fresh and delicious. I hope you have a nice and healthy trip to Beppu safely

Very commercialised and transactional

Too faraway to walk from Sora kan to the breakfast and dinner place at the Sugoinoi palace. Staff was not very friendly and hotel was too crowded. We felt like we were just one of many guests and not valued unlike some other small hotels in the region. Overall disappointed with the experience. To use the nice hotspring with view (Tanayu) and family hotspring pool, suggest to just buy a day ticket to use the facilities, which is much cheaper than staying there overnight.

Overall it is a good experience!

When checking into the hotel with my two children, I was informed by the customer service team that I would need to pay an additional fee. However, when I arrived at the front desk to check in, the extra amount they requested was higher than what the customer service representative had quoted me earlier. Fortunately, I had kept a record of my previous conversation with customer service, and was able to show this to the front desk staff to resolve the discrepancy. Otherwise, I would have had to pay more than I should have. I would recommend that the hotel provide relevant training to their front desk staff to ensure they are able to properly review a customer's past communication history with the hotel. This would help avoid any confusion or additional charges at the time of check-in. The hotel has great activities for kids to enjoy!

Everything was great! The only thing I’d say that could be better is their policy against tattoos. It’s understandable, but in 2024, they’re losing out on a ton of business, and more moving forward, as tattoos become even more common, even amongst Japanese folks. Not that it really matters much to them; they’re always full and are even expanding. Overall, though, a great (if not a bit spendy) place for a family vacation
