Great value for money, friendly and welcoming staff, single room had everything I needed, comfy bed, quiet (for the location). Continental breakfast good. Whole place immaculately clean. Will stay again!

I booked this place for my father to come and visit for a night while I finish my university studies. The reviews online seemed decent, but in reality, it was far from decent. The main issue was the cleanliness which was pretty much non existent in the room. Grime throughout the ensuite bathroom, surfaces caked in dust, and very aged equipment. To highlight how aged and poor condition, the television on the wall started to fall off the wall. My father attempted to report it to the front desk, but was assured it was normal. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Avoid at all costs.

Don't stay in room one

Pickwicks is cheap, but room 1 was very bad: noise from the shower extractor fan, noise and light from the road, uncomfortable bed and pillow, and the external toilet had been removed. There are better options at this price. Staff were positive and friendly.

Nice older building guest house. Free parking in front of building not sure if there is enough spaces for one car per room. Good greeting on arrival and room was okay. Not modern decor but still okay.Shower in ensuite was small (I am not) and would not be able to bend over to retrive shampoo/soap. Wifi in room good. Lots of places to go and eat within a 10 minute walk. Choice of hot breakfast on arrival (so you don't have to order in the morning), but don't say you will provide grilled tomatoes and then serve baby tomatoes (not grilled). Service good

Reception couldn’t find our booking. Or the people behind us. Had to tell reception the price I’d booked and the room type. Check in was painfully slow. Shown to room, asked about breakfast times and was told it was £10 per person. Explained that Expedia said it was included, and the receptionist acknowledged the fact. Room… Fire alarm panel on the opposite side of the wall had a fault on it, and beeped throughout the night. Was still going in the morning. Room was ok, and would have been quiet, barring the fire alarm. En-suite Bathroom needs a bit of money spending on it. Shower pressure was low, but just about acceptable. Bed was comfy enough and lots of wardrobe space. Lady cooking breakfast seemed surprised to see us. Obviously doesn’t talk to the receptionist. Cooked breakfast was poor, the undercooked sausage, dangerously so. Could also hear her talking loudly/shouting down the phone. It’s all a bit… amateurish. Price was cheap enough, but I wouldn’t bother again.
