Magical Stay

We had an absolutely magical stay at Mayan Monkey. They staff were amazing, the food and drinks were fantastic and the room was spacious and comfortable. Definitely the more chilled place on the island. Perfect for chilling on a sun bed and enjoying some cocktails and tacos.

We stayed in the private room with the bath tub and we were blown away! The room was great, and the view was beautiful as we looked out into the jungle. The only downside is that our shower never really got hot, I’d definitely stay here again.

Absolutely worth it! Highly recommend the Jungle room and every meal at the Mayan Monkey was fantastic.

This was a beautiful hotel. However, there are limited in-room amenities such as hand towels. If you're not looking for a fancy but comfortable stay, I recommend Mayan Monkey. Keep in mind that to get to the downtown, you'll need a taxi ride, about 150 pesos in each direction.

Enjoyed our stay by only for a few nights

Room was good but had no balcony or area to sit outside. Staff was excellent and the property was very clean and lush. Our room were on the other side of the main road which wasn’t the best. The beach and pool area is not great. Water is tuned up and murky the dock is not great and the pool is more like a wood Len box that could use an upgrade The restaurant was a really nice setting and the food was excellent.

The staff was the absolute best!!! Renting a golf cart was easy, walking about easy, relaxing on the beach so nice. The property is to the south of the island, so away from all the party scene, but still a great party vibe. We stayed a week and would absolutely stay again. A short walk from several great restaurants and bars. But seriously, try a golf cart for 24 hrs, go see the sun rise at the far south of the island, you won’t regret it. And make sure you say hola to Matteo and team, they are the BEST!!

Very clean, much appreciated. Limited compared to other hostels.

6/10 Good

Good place if you want a close private beach and don’t mind loud house/techno heard in your room late into the night and no frills. We had a room closest to the beach, which was super convenient and beautiful, but also overpriced. A fancy backpacker hotel. Music stopped 12-1am-ish. Food on site was decent and town is a 10 minute taxi or bus ride away

We absolutely loved this room with a tub in the jungle. Right next door was a rambunctious restaurant that was super fun with hibachi and the waiters were so friendly, we made lots of friends that night and went back again. The bar across the street was right on the beach and was also incredible. Just awesome place to stay

Found a big human hair ball on the bed upon entering the room. Bugs that bit inside room (very uncomfortable) and leaking toilet.

Well, hostel is so impressive, for that price I felt like I booked some really expensive resort. Clean rooms, friendly staff, YOGA in the morning was just stunning, Thank you. I would recommend you upgrade or work on the pear because it was not supper comfortable to swim but if I will ever have a chance, I will definitely come one more time. Highly recommend!!!!

This property is absolutely gorgeous and makes you truly feel like you're away from the worlds worries. Its away from the central area so its much quieter and easier to sleep. The breakfast offered was delicious, fresh and very generously portioned. The staff was very kind and helpful, and the offer of luggage storage was amazing for exploring the island after check out the next morning. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cozy jungle room, detached and simple

My husband and I stayed here for a couple nights during a longer stay on Isla Mujeres. We upgraded to a jungle room but they don’t tell you it’s across the street from the resort. The front desk agent was a bit unfriendly, nice but seemed bothered we arrived to drop bags early which seemed very common given it was more of a fancy backpackers resort. The room itself has a lovely jungle feel but is bare minimum. No where to put anything and our toilet wouldn’t fill with water after the first flush. Definitely visit the sushi place next door for hibachi!

I stayed for a few nights here and loved it. There’s a lot of areas to lounge(beach, dock, shaded areas, pumping/bean toss game areas; and my room had a balcony with a hammock which I loved. The whole place was cleaned everyday, and in good condition. My only issues was the WiFi/tv wasn’t working and the water on site smelled kind of funky(I’m not sure if this is an island issue). Aside from that I had no complaints. We rented a golf cart from them, later had a flat and they were quick to switch it out with another one. Staff were very nice and welcoming. I will be definitely coming back. Oh FYI they do play loud music at nights, personally I loved this but if you’re a light sleeper I would just take this into consideration (they do provide ear plugs).

Gorgeous place

We stayed in the jungle room which was across the street from the hostel. The atmosphere of the main area and the jungle rooms is 10/10. Gorgeous place! The jungle room is neat, very private on the ground level. The low lighting feels like a cave in the room. Not ideal for getting ready but that's just preference. Overall enjoyed the room but i do have to mention there is a samuri type restaurant next door that does a supper routine that is very loud in the evening. If youre looking for quiet and a good sleep, this wont suit you. If you're out late and wanting very social, this works. The music from the main area is quiet but the bass speaker is set high so in the jungle room the sound carries and is loud until 3/4am. The bass from the neighbouring beach club is the same thing. We did want a good sleep and a relaxing vacation so this missed the mark for us. The beds are comfortable, the noise is just unfortunate. The food at the resort is hit and miss, definitely recommend renting a golf cart and exploring the rest of the island for food and adventure. No early check in option available here.

Firstly the negatives: I wasn’t told the pool would be out of use for my whole stay, this was a contributing factor to why I booked this hotel, no compensation. Secondly I paid extra for breakfast every morning. The menu can be misleading and portions less than described on some selected. Coffee wasn’t the best, never served spoon, only if asking for sugar for my coffee. Thirdly I paid a lot for my room, noise was like a work site most of the day and music was continuously the same beat, Dj had no imagination, even the WhatsApp group asked where the party was. The positives: great location, nice yoga and meditation classes by lotta. And activities like sushi making class etc. My room was nice. But over all over priced. Won’t get a holiday for many years now, so some disappointment. Book the nice hotel up the road with a swim up bar.

Lovely location on the beach but loud music

The location is amazing and the beach is so beautiful. The area on the beach is very paradise like. However one big issue during the whole stay was the loud music - both in the beach area and around the room (we had a jungle room). The music in the beach area is unnecessarily loud making it hard to talk and even read something. The music itself was good but why so loud? The music was an issue again in the room as there was a restaurant just next to it playing extremely loud music until 23:30 during the weekend. There’s a gap in the door which makes the music leak in and you can feel the bass in the room. Another minus is the service both at the reception and in the beach/bar area. In general very slow and not so attentive. Worth noting is also that there is a bathtub in the room but there’s not enough water to fill it - after filled about 25% the water stopped running.

Travelers beware… they are under major construction and rooms may not be what you expect. The construction noise was CRAZY loud and to top it off the loud “TECHNO” music played into the late night hours 😩. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what we expected at all. It seems that the hotel puts everyone into one category… “party time”, and they don’t realize that some people just want a relaxing restful vacation. There was also some kind of leak in our room on the last night.., we woke up to a lot of water under our beds coming from the side wall 😭. On the up side… they had a few activities we enjoyed during the day. Most of staff was also very nice. And finally, the location of the hotel is beautiful.
