You can take a train from the Central Railway station that goes in a circle around the city. The trip is between 3-4 hours, stopping at 39 stations and is quite slow. The train is full of local people and at one stop people are replaced by produce going to the market. It is an incredible experience to watch loads of food come flying through each window and doorway before the train departs again! To take the train from Central Railway Station, go to the platform farthest from the building and you will see a booth in the middle. An attendant will direct you to the right train which usually leave from platform 7 but not always. It is 1000 Kyat which is less than 1 USD which he will ask for then.
