"We had a really nice stay at this hotel. The food was excellent. Chef Oohira is very skilled-the food was surprisingly delicious and the presentation was beautiful. Really high quality ingredients.
Also, the rooms were clean as they had just opened a few months ago (Oct 2018). Further, their shuttle service was a bit inconvenient since they only offer 2 times per day to the station but other than that it was an overall great stay here!"

"Extremely remote (nearly a 3 hour bus ride from Kinegawa Onsen Train station into the winding mountains) which was both an adventure and unnerving. Made to feel like a foreigner with little help in understanding the cultural norms as a newcomer to the onsen experience.
The in-suite onsen option was incredible, providing both privacy and ability to enjoy the experience as a newcomer free of the "ritual" imposed but not well explained for use of the public hot pools.

place to stay. There are hiking routes around the area. Recommend taking a stroll in the nearby mountain town. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Udon by the river, foot spas, all were amazing!
Ask a local for directions on the Udon by the river. Quite the amazing experience."

"What and interesting concept. Restored in a very stylish, almost boutique hotel style way (lobby and lounge is very cool) but with vestiges of the old hotel here and there for chsrm. "

"A fantastic ryokan experience. We had a delux room with private bathroom. Slept on mats on the floor which was surprisingly comfortable. The onsen offered 2 small hot baths covered and open to outdoors. Breakfast was amazing, offering Japanese and American style cuisine. Had difficult time finding restaurants for dinner, not many choices and they fill up early. Walkable to most sights. "

"Kinugawa Kanaya Hotel is an incredible property with unparalleled Japanese hospitality. The stunning surroundings are matched by the dedication of the staff, especially Moeka, who was exceptionally personable and professional. Her service made my stay unforgettable. Highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting the area!"

"Wonderful greeting to enjoy this beautiful property for a day. The amenities are first rate and meals are clever and service in the restaurant is excellent.
Rooms are a little dated but would not prevent me from booking there again."

"Disappointing! We booked the Momiji suite which is huge, clean and nice. But the “open air” bath tub is not at all open air. The private bath is enclosed in its own room which stays steamy 24/7, so the air is 40C/104F. This makes mold grow on the walls.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The included food is a mediocre quality buffet that is exactly the same every day.
It seems like Kinugawa has not recovered from Covid, as the town shuts down around 4:30 and there are very limited...
