Staying in Gardiner is my preference compared to inside Yellowstone National Park. Provides creature comfort benefits of staying in a small town vs only having access to the same cafe, cafeteria, or single restaurant such as inside the park.

Gardiner is the place to go for your Yellowstone experience. Close to the North Gate and the road is always open. Best time to go is mid to late May for full park access.

Gardiner is a cool little town, but it needs more economical dining options and more varied dining options. Food is very expensive, and mostly read meat. Load up in Bozeman before you head to Gardiner.

Gardiner is a tourist town. Groceries are very expensive. Lots of places to eat and shop for souvenirs. Maybe a mile from the North Gate of Yellowstone, 5 miles to Mammoth Hot Springs.

"Lots of intown "rooms" to stay in Gardiner, or 5 miles away for about the same $$ you can have a beautifully decorated superior experience overlooking the Yellowstone river and mountains. Memorable!"
"We opted to use the Antler Lodge as our 6 night base for exploring the Lamar Valley and the sights within the Grand Loop. Gardiner provides excellent access to the NP with short queues at the park entrance and a 10 to 15 minute drive to Mammoth Springs. The check in process is a one person affair so depending on your arrival time patience is required although complimentary coffee is available whilst you wait. The lodge has 2 parking lots with the space at the back being the quieter one. Key cards are required to access the lodge and luggage trolleys are provided. Given our length of stay we opted for a suite. The suite was a good size with a fridge, microwave, coffee machine, small dining table and a seating area. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the use of the air conditioning and ceiling fan. Breakfast is not an option, however there are plenty of eating options in Gardiner as well as a general stores close by."
