Learn more about Longmire

The region around Longmire is home to attractions such as Longmire Museum and Mount Rainier National Park.

The remains of Soda Springs, one of 49 mineral spring that attracted visitors to this area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The springs were developed by the Longmire family, who first settled the area in 1883 after building a wagon trail from Ashford, 13 miles (21 km) away. In addition to improving the springs, the Longmires constructed a series of cabins, tents, a 5-room hotel, and hiking trails to Paradise.

By 1915 the Longmires and the National Park were no longer seeing eye-to-eye, and the Longmires leased the property to a hotelier, who improved and continued to operate the springs until the National Park Service purchased the property in 1939.
